The Philippine Government has just announced that starting from September 1st, 2025, rice imports in the Philippines will be suspended for 60 days. This decision was made in the context of the drop in rice prices in the Philippines, raising concerns about its influence on farmers’ livelihoods. The Philippine Government expects that restricting imports will help raise domestic paddy purchase prices while creating more favorable conditions for the consumption of local agricultural products.
